(WJZ) MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. One Maryland lawmaker is calling for the impeachment of a Montgomery County judge after she threw out a rape case involving a seven-year-old girl.

As Gigi Barnett reports, the battle to try the defendant is moving to the State House.

A three-year rape trial in Montgomery County came to an end earlier this week when Circuit Court Judge Katherine Savage threw it out. Now some state lawmakers, ike Delegate Pat McDonough, want Judge Savage impeached.

"When something is done wrong by a judge, I believe it's our job to do something about that," said Delegate Pat McDonough.

Throughout the trial, the defendant, Mahamu Kanneh, said he needed an interpreter to speak his African language of Vy. Kanney, a Liberian native, is accused of raping and molesting a seven-year-old female relative. McDonough says, however, the search for an interpreter took months, even though Kanney speaks English.

"This guy spoke English as well as you and I and she knew it and she should have made the decision to move forward with that case," McDonough said.

I have filed an action with the Maryland General Assembly calling for the impeachment and removal of Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Katherine Savage.
