Speak English in the News

V-me, Maryland Public Television's Spanish-language digital channel, has been on the air for less than a week, but a conservative lawmaker is already working to yank it.

Del. Patrick L. McDonough (R-Baltimore County) said he will introduce legislation when the General Assembly reconvenes that would establish a commission to determine what should air on MPT's three new digital stations.

Speak English Press Releases

I have been participating in parades for a number of years as an elected official, but what I experienced this past July 4th was astounding.  It was my privilege to be part of 3 great traditional Independence Day parades which took place in Dundalk, Kingsville, and Bel Air.

My day started at 8 in the morning when I lined up with other elected officials for the popular Dundalk Independence Day parade.  My presentation consisted of my wife, Valerie and I in the back of a pick-up truck, each holding up a sign which produced the astounding reaction I referred to earlier.  The sign simply read “Pat McDonough Delegate” with a big section proclaiming “Speak English.”

Speak English Letters to Editor

Dear Friends,

Many people have responded enthusiastically to the idea of placing “English as Baltimore County’s Official Language” on the November, 2008 general election ballot.  I am in the process now of researching the legalities and guidelines required to undertake this project.

PAT’S PUBLIC FORUM EAST COUNTY TIMES  WEEK OF 7-22-07

The purpose of passing a bill that would mandate English as the formal, legal language of government is to prevent our nation from becoming overwhelmed by multi-culturalism and bilingual mania.  The initiative has nothing to do with forcing individuals to speak English. One needs not travel any farther than the telephone to be irritated by the ever present “Press 1 for English, Press 2 for Spanish, etc.”
